What is a SuperMoon?
A SuperMoon appears 14% larger and much brighter as it comes as close as to Earth as it can in it’s orbit – only 363,104km away – about 4,974 soccer fields! The moon as we know has a direct link to water & tides, which seem to be related to our well-being and emotions – we are 60% water after-all! So does the moon affect us? Myself and many others, including paramedics and other emergency services would likely agree! The gravitational pull of the sun and moon cause the tides to swell and rise on the side of the Earth towards the moon and sun. Similarly, this seems to affect animals – our melatonin levels, sex hormones, menstruation and hospitals note higher rates of cardiovascular concerns, aside from emotional disturbances and violence.** Did you know the reproductive cycle of fish is affected by lunar cycles? For birds, melatonin disappears during fullmoons!
How Will This SuperMoon in Gemini Affect Us?
I believe this is ultimately our choice, yet it’s clear that biorhythms do have an impact, to include the stars and planets. This SuperMoon is a summation of 2017 – a time of cleansing to bring us closer to our values and true purpose. Gemini is curious, adaptable and fluid, affectionate, and creative with a tendency to vary between extremes which can be de-stabilizing. The key with this fullmoon – find balance, ground yourself, create a nurturing space with protection around you. Use this time to go within to take stalk and a very balanced review of the year and where you intend to go for the next year. Be honest with your true self – check-out Nov 17th’s post on Persona, Shadow & the New Moon. I love a good pros and cons list, then sitting to meditate. Take some time to reflect on how you have changed over this past year:
- How have you grown?
- Any remaining aspects you need to clean up and out?
- What are your basic needs? Physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually?
- What are your core values and purpose?
- What do you still have a burning desire to do?
Mercury in Retrograde
Mercury goes into retrograde 3-4 times a year, and will be on December 3rd in Sagittarius, signaling expansion. A retrograde is the appearance of a planet moving away from us. Mercury governs communication, Gemini and Virgo. Both planets being quick-witted. Gemini tends to flow and governs the parts of our body we use for communication – nervous system, voice, hands; where as Virgo is more practical and is ties to the nervous system. When Mercury goes into retrograde, it is seen as a slide in communication – or I like to think of it as an opportunity to be more internal … getting creative, planning, and quietly putting it out there to see what will organically unfold.
- What are your wildest dreams?
- How are you going to make them happen in 2018?
This basically is not a time to push or commit – although pushing is never wise, sometimes when we want something so much it’s a struggle to be patient…but it does always pay off!
A FullMoon Meditation
Black tourmaline, obsidian, and clear quartz are wonderful clearing and grounding stones. If you can, bring in some rose quartz for circulation and healing, and aventurine for creativity. Create a special, comfortable, quiet space for yourself where you won’t be disturbed. Perhaps bring a journal and a quartz candle. Begin by grounding yourself through your root chakra, allowing a golden cord or roots to reach into the Earth. Bring white light through your body, into the Earth, and as you continue to breathe, allowing it to radiate out to create a protective layer around you. I would recommend doing this every day in the morning for 5 minutes minimum with an easy, flowing breath – it will help you throughout the day. For more details on grounding, please see any of our previous meditation blogs, including Oct 12th’s on Meditation. Reflect on the questions above, and continue with your breath, allowing answers to come to you intuitively.
